perkins Focuses on EU Stage V Emission-Certified Power Solutions to Help Generator Set OEMs Tap Europe’s Commercial Backup Power Market

Recently, Perkins has obtained EU Stage V emission certification for a range of its power units for power generation. It has rolled out complete compliant engine solutions for commercial buildings, data centres, shopping malls, medical facilities and other critical backup power applications across Europe, removing key emission compliance barriers for Chinese generator OEMs targeting the European market.

The Stage V regulation imposes strict limits on particulate matter and nitrogen oxides, serving as the core access requirement for generator sets entering the EU. The certified models cover the 904, 1206, 1506 and 22062206C-E13TAG2  series, spanning a power range from 45 kVA to 720 kVA and compatible with 50 Hz grid standards. These engines are fitted with an integrated aftertreatment system combining DOC, DPF and SCR modules. The compact layout simplifies assembly for soundproof sets and containerised power stations and reduces structural design workload for manufacturers.

These electronically controlled power units are specially calibrated to achieve ISO 8528 G3 transient performance. They maintain stable voltage and frequency under sudden load steps, ideal for critical loads such as hospitals and data centres where even brief power interruptions are unacceptable. Optimised combustion helps cut fuel consumption while meeting emission limits, and extended service intervals lower long-term operational costs for end users. The engines are compatible with HVO hydrotreated vegetable oil, aligning with Europe’s decarbonisation trend and meeting tender requirements for selected green projects.

Beyond the engines themselves, Perkins supplies partner OEMs with full technical documentation, emission certificates, test reports and FAT factory acceptance guidelines to support whole-unit registration. Europe’s backup power market enjoys steady demand, yet the high entry threshold means many Chinese exporters struggle to secure orders due to a shortage of compliant power options.

Drawing on its century-long expertise in power generation engines and global certification framework, Perkins’ Stage V portfolio completes its mid-range compliant power line-up for Europe. As Chinese generator exports to Europe grow steadily, low-emission compliant power has become a decisive competitive factor. Perkins strengthens technical cooperation with domestic set manufacturers and delivers spare parts and technical support via its established regional dealer network. This helps exporters seize opportunities brought by the replacement cycle of backup power assets in Europe and boost competitiveness in high-end overseas markets.
